BUILDING A THRIVING COMMUNITY THROUGH CREATIVITY, INNOVATION AND COMPASSIONATE LEADERSHIP

OUR MISSION
The Center for Creative and Compassionate Communities’ mission is to foster a vibrant ecosystem of creativity, innovation, and compassionate leadership, to drive economic growth and community vitality.

THE WELL CRAFTED INSTITUTE
The Well Crafted Institute works with the area’s leading innovative companies to provide a unique employer benefit option that will attract newly-minted, highly sought-after creatives and creative problem-solvers to Catawba County who may initially be attracted to larger urban areas. In addition, the Well Crafted Institute’s community-oriented programming will increase employee engagement and retention by cultivating meaningful relationships through strategically curated cultural and community experiences that foster compassionate personal growth, professional development, and social affinities.
Companies that participate in the Residency program recognize the value of investing in employee well-being and community engagement. These companies model corporate social responsibility initiatives and values-driven leadership. Additionally, they seek to enhance workplace morale and encourage creativity in employees toward employee retention goals and understand the long-term benefits of artistic engagement in the workplace. They recognize the value of integrating arts, creative thinking and employee wellness into the workplace culture, leading to improved employee satisfaction and innovation.

THE RESIDENCY
PROGRAM
The Well Crafted Institute, in its pilot phase beginning in June 2026, will assemble a cohort of four-to-six individuals (Well Crafted Fellows) into a micro-community based at Catawba Farms in Newton, NC. The cohort will be comprised of other newly hired Fellows and visiting artists-in-residence based at Catawba Farms. This micro-community is defined by its commitment to professional excellence, community engagement, and personal growth. The residency’s goal is to build a vibrant and transformative living environment that works in harmony with the employees’ professional aspirations and newly acquired responsibilities.
